(Written one week after Haitian immigrant Abner Louima, 30,
was allegedly tortured and sodomized by two New York police officers
during confinement at the city's 70th Precinct in Brooklyn.)

a thousand cries at night

Four thousand cries and
Eight thousand fists
Aimed skyward.

Rage from the core of an
Apple gone bad.
Spilling from bruised side of town.

Where Justice don't go
At night.
Sees him on her turf.
One-way glass eye.
Without an attorney.
Cussing and flinging
Their white Lies.

Haitian son.
Kissing the ground with
Help from his friends.

Black and NY Blue.

A plunger up the ass on the
Steps of safe haven.
Thousandth point of light.
Bleeding at the mouth of
Liberty's harbor.

Where boats bring
Poor and huddled masses.
Teary dream seekers
Bound for America.
