Song of Portsmouth
by B. Elders
Can you see the lighthouse in
your harbor
Christmas soon will twinkle from the bridge
I remember you and sad Roberto
And thinking heaven is a place like this
Did you find my note upon your
pillow
Have you heard my song upon the wind
I can count the molecules I left there
I can feel me with you now, old friend
Tell me of the days we were much
younger
Talk to me of pirates and such lore
Walk with me 'round cobblestones and corners
Take my hand along the northern shore
From your back porch I could
see forever
Down windswept banks to just beyond the bay
From our back yard I can see the neighbors
One-quarter lot and half a yard away
Nights in Texas never seem to cool me
The wind in Boston never felt quite warm
I have thought to live beside the water
Though I have tried to make this place my home
Tell me of the days we were much
younger
Talk to me of pirates and such lore
Walk with me 'round cobblestones and corners
Hold my hand along the northern shore
Your heart has made its home
within the harbor
Shining like a jewel in the bay
I'll say a prayer for you and for Roberto
My heart is surely with you both today
Tell me of the days when we were
younger
Talk to me of pirates and such lore
Oft' the wind doth sing a Song of Portsmouth
And friends so far away from southern shores...
