Welcome to Betty Elders' Original, since 1979, RedBird Café ®,
nestled deep in the beautiful Hill Country of Texas, near Austin. Just
find the big Blue Mesa floating on the horizon, and you are almost here!

Come by way of the winding road near RedBird Notch. See the pristine
Hill Country-side from your car, covered wagon, bicycle, or even on foot!
You can't imagine all there is to take in along the way. And there's even
a few open spaces left with nothin' in them for miles and miles, except
where God occasionally pulls His mighty paint brush across the
horizon. Why you can see just about thirty miles from our very own
backsteps, all the way past RedBird Notch and beyond to the big Blue
Mesa! It has been rumored that we have the best sunrises on the
planet...
Before you bound through our gate, though, take a moment to wander through the RedBird Cafe®
gardens; smell the antique roses, squeeze the rosemary, take a sprig of mint for your pocket, or grab
a handful of strawberries for homemade ice cream later on the front porch after dinner- -while the
guitars are tuning up.
Plan to stay for short stories and a hymn sing before bed, by
the big stone hearth; there's a rockin' chair and a quilt to keep
your feet warm, and you can always sit by the fire if you get
there early.
There's a Poetry Read Sunday afternoon in the Parlor, where you can sample one of our homemade cobblers baked fresh that morning. And a
porch just right for sittin', or rockin', or pickin' , or listenin' to pickin'...
For those of you who miss the olden days when we chewed
the fat about music, the state of the world, politics, and any
other stimulatin' topic we could dredge up... well, just head on
out to the
BackSteps where you're liable to find one or two of
the locals chewin' on somethin' or somebody-- weather
permitting, of course;
(in the winter we relocate around the old
woodstove in the RedBird kitchen).

Just pull up a chair, a step (first come, first serve) or even a
stump! Why, even the Editor of
The RedBird RidgeRunner
has been found there on more than one occasion, herself...
On your way home, take a souvenir
copy of our Bill of Fare or a
complimentary recipe - we leave a
few copies by the kitchen door for
everyone's cookbook - - or linger
awhile longer on the Listening Porch
and hear some incredible music;
there's CD's, and soon in our
General Store, look for a few
old-timey records, or take home one
of our
original works of art, all
created by local folks - - all one of a
kind...and don't forget to come back
soon!!
