2 cups sugar
3 eggs
2 1/2 cups unbleached flour
3-4 medium apples (any type works) sliced
1 cup vegetable oil
1 tspn. cinnamon
1/4 tspn. salt
1 tspn. soda
1 tspn. vanilla
1 cup sliced almonds

Beat sugar with eggs until fluffy. Add vanilla, cinnamon, salt. Add 1/2 flour/soda/salt mix; follow with oil, beating on medium setting for two minutes. Add remaining flour mixture and 1/2 cup of the nuts. Fold in apple slices. Pour into pregreased and floured bundt or round tube pan. Sprinkle remaining nuts around the top of the batter. Bake at 325 degrees until knife inserted in the middle comes out clean. (approx: 1-1/2 hours depending on the moisture content, and amount, of apples)

Topping:
In a medium saucepan combine over low flame:
one cup brown sugar
1/3 stick butter
1/8 tspn. vanilla
1 can good evaporated milk

Heat until sugar has desolved. Drizzle over cooled cake. Store in 'fridge. Apple cider may be substituted for canned milk, but then omit vanilla.
