Like Birds
(for Blair Protzman, MD)

In my town
you would have been
the "medicine man"
Or a strange character that
walked out of some book
with an owl on your shoulder
And a tatoo
of a blue anchor
That never anchored you

And for reasons of destiny
or irony
like pieces of the
Chessboard
we landed
You and me
Face to face
Two opposites
Attracted
I, to sing to you
And you, to devour the
song

Tell me
that you haven't left
That you can still hear
And see
how full is the nest
That you wove so well
For me the full moon
Will never be the same
Tell me where is the heaven
That sent for you

Between praying
and cursing
I ask God to take care of
Your noble soul
Your little, doctor footsteps
Let there be music for him
Because without music
There can be no heaven
An expert in love
Has flown away

Today we come,
thirsty birds
To sing to you
and to drink
of your song
Sweet, irreverent friend
Of a thousand dreams
I have come for you
to teach me
How to fly
