The Girl in the Window

We stopped to look at a poster
of Marilyn Monroe
standing on a beach somewhere
her back to the breakers

I remembered
the playground at school
the day after she died
when I was an eleven year old boy

The man in the store told me
it was one of the last photos taken

I went back out to the sidewalk
where Becky was hugging herself
against the cold
just like Norma Jean
